MODEL:  MANGROVE SHORE NATIVE PRESERVE:    INTRODUCTION    PHOTO MAP    NEXT PHOTO

11 Fifteen years ago, the volunteers pleaded to deafened ears how great it would be to spruce up this shortcut to the City Pier around Public Works. Instead it was blocked off with a chain link fence. Finally last year, a confluence of vision by an entirely different set of powers-that-be saw the light and funds were provided by Sarasota Bay Estuary grants. Now lined with Cabbage palms, both booted and bare, and a varied line of mangrove shore trees and shrubs just out of their pots, the Mangrove Walk is an emerging reality. Gradually, as funds are available, we will add the natives that can only grow with one toe in the brackish waters that rise to them with the tides.
