Gossypium hirsutum : Wild Cotton

This small to medium shrub has Hisbisus-like blooms that open rose go pale creamy yellow, closing by 2pm.

Green pods reminiscent of seashells soon follow.

Some weeks later they open up, brown and dry out clutching a clump of cotton fibers.

The cottonseeds are visible through the veil of the plump boll of cotton.
