This preserve owes its existence to the Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay Estuary Program grants and the volunteers who secured those grants, installed the plantings and cared for them over the years. It illustrates well how the two different plant communities -- the coastal uplands maritime forest and the saline marsh and wetlands -- seamlessly merge along their adjecent perimeters.
